Main Description
Ataru Moroboshi is a young man with a bad habit. He's a relentless skirt-chaser who lusts after nearly every pretty girl in the galaxy. There's just one obstacle to his flirtatious ways: the exotic alien girl who thinks she's his wife. Her name is Lum, she can fly and shoot electricity, and she's got a jealous streak a mile wide. Lum might be the only girl in the universe who doesn't think Ataru is a total creep, but ironically she's about the only one Ataru isn't interested in. Maybe he hates the frequent electric shocks, or maybe he's just afraid of commitment.
Urusei Yatsura doesn't exactly have a story beyond Ataru and Lum's "relationship." It's a sort-of-sci-fi episodic comedy where space aliens visit Earth to cause trouble, and humans go into space to cause trouble. While Ataru and Lum are the main characters, there's a huge cast of supporting characters each more strange than the last, from a seemingly normal schoolgirl who's capable of Herculean feats of strength when angered, to a gluttonous shape-shifter, to a cold-hearted capitalist from Neptune, to a rabbit-boy from another dimension. Urusei Yatsura is all about crazy characters and the crazy situations they get themselves into.

A classic anime that established Lum as a pop-culture icon of the 1980's. Kind of old now, but in just about every other anime comedy I've watched I've seen some kind of influence from Urusei Yatsura.
