Crest of the Stars was my first anime serial, so I may be a bit biased, but it's one of the most well-written, fleshed-out series I've laid eyes on. The characters, while few and far between, are complex and likeable, and the reversed perspective in which humanity is portrayed as a belligerent, irrational, hateful, spoiled race is extremely unique and interesting among the vast wasteland of traditional "alien invasion" stories. Action fans should avoid this series at all costs, as space battles are very rare and designed with scientific accuracy in mind; i.e., no Spanish galleon faceoffs. Very boring. Crest of the Stars is all about politics, dialogue, and perspective. Even though the entire galaxy is at war by the second season (Banner of the Stars), the focus is always in Jinto and Lafiel, and just watching them build up their relationship from strangers in the first series to bickering like a married couple by the end of the third is worth watching. In this case definitely, it's the journey not the destination that makes it a classic. | ||

This is easily one of the best sci-fi shows to be released, ever, and a textbook example of perfect character development across a long-running series (in this case; three series of thirteen episodes).
