Main Description

Without the wonders of modern telecommunications important messages still have to be relayed by hand. Vanship pilots fulfil this purpose piloting small aircraft capable of floating by themselves. Klaus and Lavie, a pilot and navigator of a vanship, go about their ordinary lives as couriers until one day they help another vanship which has been gunned down and agree to take over it's mission. The delivery of a certain cargo to the 'Kill them all Silvana', the most lethal warship know to either side in a bitter war. As they deliver their cargo they become dredged into the politics of the situation and their strong feelings drag them into the crew of the Silvana as they make preperation for an attack which could shatter the face of the world.

Personal Opinions

Big Big Moon

Every person who's ever thought it would be cool to drive an airship needs to watch the first episode of Last Exile at the very least. If you don't like the gorgeous animation quality, the steampunk atmosphere, the :awesome: adventures of failure expert Mullin Shetland, or the weird story revolving around some hyperspace thing called the Grand Stream, the airship battles will knock you out of your seat. I didn't care for the whiny main characters or quasi-politics that littered the story, but seeing such well-animated fleets of skyscraper-sized floating warships beating the everloving shit out of each other with gigantic cannons is worth the viewing time. The funny thing about Last Exile is that the main characters, Klaus, Lavi, and their cliche technopathic child friend, are annoying and uninteresting, but everyone around them is great fun to watch, especially perfectionist pilot Tatiana and delightfully insane Dio.

Mirsha

You know I loved this series. Okay the two main characters as presented were pretty shit copies of male character A who may like a girl and female character B who like guy A most likely but you know it doesn't go anywhere. So where does the appeal in this series like then? I don't know, Lavie is still I think a shit character. And I'm sorry. But the character name 'LAVIE HEAD' just cracks me up every time. Klaus at least has some stuff happening about him and seeing some of the other characters react around him is good though I was always left with a nagging feeling I'd like them to continue with those seemingly secondary characters and develop the situation a bit more. The presentation and development of the other characters is done quite will delving into their own stories without letting them take complete focus of the series. The best thing about this series is the sheep. I cannot tell thee how many times I spread a cheesey grin in response to it bleating. Well worth watching if you don't take yourself too seriously.
