Sum it up in a Sentence:
Follow the careers of a bunch of teen idols and their day-to-day challenges.
Main Description
The series begins from the first-person view of a cameraman interviewing the girls of 765 Productions, a startup management studio for teen idols. They're asked about their dreams and aspirations, and at the end of the day, it is revealed by the company president that the cameraman is the new producer they have been waiting for. Tasked with managing all 13 girls with only one other co-producer and one secretary for help, the conveniently nameless producer juggles schedules, auditions, and event performances to ensure the success of 765 Productions.

Personal Opinions
Willsun
I think a lot of people were disappointed that the rest of the series wasn't done in the tone of the first episode, but I enjoyed the rest of the series because this didn't devolve into a harem and it had a lot of gags that were surprisingly funny and well-animated (including a mecha "trailer" done by Studio Trigger aka Hiroyuki Imaishi). That said, if the episodes featuring a single character at a time doesn't prove to have enough depth, the whole thing might seem like one big marketing commercial to get you to buy the game or CDs. It's pretty easy to let go and have some fun with Idolmaster, and they even have some pretty good moments of drama near the middle and end.
