20-year-old college student Amamiya Yuuhi is a cynical loner as a result of a deceased father and an abusive grandfather. When Sir Noi Crezant, a talking lizard and one of the Beast Knights, appears one morning on Yuuhi's chest and tells him of his planet's impending demise by the hands of a powerful psychic, Animus, Yuuhi could care less. That is, until Yuuhi meets 14-year-old super powered "princess" Asahina Samidare. When Yuuhi hears of Samidare's motivation for defeating Animus, so that she can destroy the world herself, Yuuhi immediately becomes the loyal knight of this fearsome princess. Eventually fighting alongside eleven other Beast Knights, Yuuhi and Samidare combat twelve Golems, beings created by Animus who are invisible to everyone except the Princess and the Beast Knights, in order to encounter and defeat Animus. All while this is happening, Yuuhi and Samidare keep their intentions hidden away from their allies until the very last moment. However, these Golems are no pushovers and none of them will hesitate to kill any of the Beast Knights.

Very good and non-stereotypical action manga with good characters:

Personal Opinions

a kitten

Manages to simultaneously be a subversion and a glorious example of "a rag-tag group of misfits must band together to save the world". At times hilarious, touching, heartbreaking, suspenseful and exhilarating this manga rapidly became one of my favorite stories in any media.

Zorak

This is honestly one of the better completed seinen mags, and one of the more atmospheric ones in an odd way. It's very... relaxed about things. That's not to say it's not without tension and sadness and plenty of great action, it's just that it's rather devoid of angst and is overall very optimistic. It's a feel good fantasy manga that plays with a lot of the classic shounen tropes for fun. Excellent from start to finish.

linall

For a manga that begins with the forgone conclusion that someone is going to destroy the world, this is a very chillaxed world. Lampshades basically every shonen trope there is, with mostly hilarious results. There aren't really any groan worthy characters, which is surprising for a story where roughly 1/2 of the cast are animals. The main character jumps around power level-wise more than a minor character in DBZ, but it's not as obnoxious as one might think. The only series where, when you can't wait for the world to end, you are not actually expressing a negative opinion about it.
