I expected something crazy with a Meido detective/writer from the few sentences of description I found in the previews. What I got was something mostly different: an amusing slice-of-life show focusing on different people around town. Even the "maid cafe" itself was simply part of the setting rather than a focal point of the series. While the series did deal with some real-life craziness, it also throws in a sudden curveball every so often with things like an alien invader or questions about the afterlife, and Hotori's weird way of thinking makes you question whether the events actually happened in the story or if she's just lying to make it sound interesting. Also, the ED is cool. You should watch it.

You will be grinning the whole time throughout this top notch comedy with very likable characters set in a stranger-than-fiction town. Watch the anime then read the manga, I'd rate it funnier than Nichijou as it less relies on skits.

Sum it up in a Sentence:

A show about the not so usual lives of the employees of a little maid café in a small, rural town.

Main Description

Hotori Arashiyama is a somewhat ordinary girl, forced to work in an successful coffee shop. One day, the owner decides to cash in in the maid café fad, turning it into one without actually knowing what to do other than dressing up as maids. Their only real customer is Hiroyuki, who is more in (unrequited) love with Hotori than the café. When her friend Toshiko, who in return is in love with Hiroyuki, hears about this, she too joins the café in hopes to get closer to him. And there's also Hotori's math teacher who is a little obsessed trying to teach his subject to the unconventionally thinking girl, often leaving him in despair. And when the bucktoothed Harue and the tomboyish Futaba get involved, everything descends into chaos.

PotU

THIS IS NOT A SHOW ABOUT LITTLE GIRLS DRESSING AS MAIDS AND FLASHING THEIR BREASTS AND PANTIES ALL THE TIME. In my opinion, SoreMachi is one of the best shows 2010 that unfortunately didn't get enough attention. It's a fun show with great characters. Chiaki Omigawa is doing an absolutely fantastic role as a voice actor and it's worth it to watch this for her work alone. The animations are not the best, but I like the art style and the unusual perspectives. And the music is cool, too. I can only recommend it if you want to have some good fun time. Aliens included.
