Sum it up in a Sentence:
Ordinary high school girl Marika Kato learns that her absent father has passed away and she's inherited his title and job of Space Pirate Captain.
Main Description
In the far future, on a distant planet, Marika Kato discovers that her mother used to be a crew member of the pirate ship Bentenmaru and that her absent father was not only the captain of that vessel, but has just recently died. The letter of marque that the pirates operate under has now passed on to her, making her next in line to be the new captain. As she decides whether or not to become a Space Pirate she learns a lot about responsibility, makes friends, and has adventures.
What the? This sounds really generic
On paper it doesn’t sound very interesting, in practice it avoids most clichés you might expect to find: the characters are competent without being perfect, they both make and learn from mistakes, there’s little to no fanservice, and it’s not even particularly action-heavy—most conflicts are solved by thinking things through and being clever rather than through violence.

Personal Opinions
a kitten
Based on the title and what little information I had beforehand, if you had told me that this would turn out not only to be watchable, but to be one of my new favorites I would have called you a damn liar. Lively and engaging, this turned out to be a great deal of fun, with an interesting and dynamic cast, cool science fiction concepts, and plot-lines that play out in some surprising directions.
