Based upon the less-successful Zaku I, the MS-06 Zaku II was mass produced for the Zeon Military Forces with an eye toward the conflict that would come to be known as the One Year War. The Zaku II MS-06C model was initially deployed in January U.C. 0078 and was Zeon's primary mobile suit at the start of the One Year War, but soon replaced by the MS-06F. Typical armament for a Zaku included a 120mm drum-fed machine gun or a 280mm bazooka. Later, a 90mm machine gun became common. For close combat, these units were issued a mecha-sized thermal axe called a "Heathawk."
