Sum it up in a Sentence:

Follow the travels of forever 10 year-old Ash Ketchum (Satoshi) as he tours the Pokémon world with stories loosely based on the video game series where cockfighting with animals is the norm.

Main Description

Pokémon is an abbreviated Japanese name for "Pocket monsters," and make up all the creatures that exist in the Pokémon world beyond humans. People capture, train, and fight with Pokémon in friendly competition to gain prestige and accolade, so when young Ash Ketchum (Satoshi in Japanese) turns 10 years old, he set off on his quest to become a Pokémon master. He is given a Pikachu as his starting Pokémon, and as he travels from town to town earning badges through battles to win the right to fight in bigger tournaments, he gains new friends and Pokémon alike to accompany him.

The overarching plot to the series is either for Ash to collect tokens that allow him to fight in championship leagues of the world's top Pokémon trainers, or to foil the plot of criminal organizations who want to capture rare Pokémon or use Pokémon for evil. Usually, however, each episode simply serves to showcase individual Pokémon species and how Ash interacts with them to save the day from a minor crisis usually perpetrated by the Team Rocket trio of Jesse, James, and a talking Meowth.

So far, there have been 5 large series of the anime, each comprised of chapters that are divided differently between the Japanese and English versions. Below is the breakup of the series listed in English seasons:
