Main Description

Set in a retro-styled future, a new energy revolution has brought a totally clean and safe energy source known as the Shizuma drive, ending the need of depleting petroleum resources and nuclear power. The act that created the drive nearly destroyed the world, however, and killed one of its creators, Franken Von Vogler, in the process. Ten years later, Big Fire, a terrorist group with its eye on world domination, aims to take advantage of the legacy of Vogler and bring the world to a stand still. They are confronted by the International Police Organization's Experts of Justice, consisting of many mighty warriors, and a young boy, who controls the world's most powerful robot: GIANT ROBO.

Personal Opinions

wielder

Giant Robo has some of the most over the top, action-packed fight scenes in anime yet the mecha are almost an afterthought when you have such an awesome cast of super-powered heroes and villians. The pacing can get a little slow and the director (Imagawa) loves to throw a number of curveballs at the viewer, but a lot of the build-up pays off admirably, the soundtrack is great and the story is epic in scope while still managing to remain quite poignant in the end. Definitely one of my personal favorites.
