At the least, it has great production values with wonderful animation and Kanno's moving musical score. Just don't fall into the trap of trying to figure out what you think this show is "trying to tell you", and then get upset if you don't like what they're saying, or how they're saying it. Try to just enjoy it as a drama, and, if someone says something that piques your interest (either because it sounds stupid or for whatever reason), then examine it at your leisure. I marathoned it in one (very long) train ride, and didn't find it preachy, but instead found it to be very emotionally moving. Maybe I didn't find it preachy because to me, it didn't seem like the show was overtly trying to tell you to accept any specific judgments about the inherent goodness of this or that. If romanticism and environmentalism doesn't piss you off, give it a try. Maybe you'll love it. | ||
