Sum it up in a Sentence:

Earth Girl Arjuna is a series showcasing extremist environmentalism in the trappings of a magical girl drama with character designs from Takahiro Kishida of Serial Experiments Lain and music by Yoko Kanno.

Main Description

Not hamstrung by being over serious or preachy, "Arjuna" instead wraps it's message and profound moments in a highly watchable anime full of mysticism, spirit creatures, and incredible animation that will hold you spellbound. The CGI effects in this series represent some of the best of what's possible in animation today, and the show's high production values are on par with that of a full budget animated movie. Thoughtful and thought provoking, Earth Girl Arjuna is a delightful series you need to see!

Unfortunately, every single thing in the previous paragraph is a gigantic lie perpetrated by gigantic retards who get their opinions on environmental issues from "Pet Shop of Horrors." Long story short, the entire show is the world's best animated but worst thought out argument for 100% of the world's population immediately abandoning our cities and becoming no-till, no-fertilizer, organic subsistence farmers.

There are some characters floating around in there, but they're mostly uninteresting 2d mockeries of people the writer hates. Tokio doesn't "get" environmentalism and likes cheeseburgers. This is why he is never portrayed favorably in any way. Chris is a Bene-Gesserit witch with the powers of Dr. X and Superman combined in addition to raising people from the grave. Huge author self-insert.

There are some other guys, but none of them matter.

This show is the worst unintentionally hilarious show on the planet, excluding Eiken. Watch it with friends and cheeseburgers for maximum effect.

I know ADTRW hates this show, and maybe it's just the fact that I'm a tree-hugging hippy loser, but somehow I found this show tremendously enjoyable. At the least, it has great production values with wonderful animation and Kanno's moving musical score. Just don't fall into the trap of trying to figure out what you think this show is "trying to tell you", and then get upset if you don't like what they're saying, or how they're saying it. Try to just enjoy it as a drama, and, if someone says something that piques your interest (either because it sounds stupid or for whatever reason), then examine it at your leisure. I marathoned it in one (very long) train ride, and didn't find it preachy, but instead found it to be very emotionally moving. Maybe I didn't find it preachy because to me, it didn't seem like the show was overtly trying to tell you to accept any specific judgments about the inherent goodness of this or that. If romanticism and environmentalism doesn't piss you off, give it a try. Maybe you'll love it.

If you're looking for a good idea on whether or not you'll like it, watch episode six. When characters say "Japan keeps importing more and more food," try not to worry about whether the show is trying to tell you something is bad, or that you're bad. It's not. Just... watch.

One hot summer day I watched this show then died.
