If you liked the comedic high school parts of the first season of Full Metal Panic, you'll love this. It takes that and ramps it up a thousand times. A very energetic comedy that does not rely on viewers seeing the first series; in fact, I feel it can easily serve as an introduction to the FMP universe.
Dan a man
I watched this after a friend recommended it to me. And now I'm passing the recommendation along to the rest of ADTRW. I've never seen the main FMP series and I still fully enjoyed Fumoffu. In fact, I plan to start watching FMP because of this series.

Completely hilarious and one of the best comedy anime out there. Almost every episode left me laughing. You don't have to watch the first season to enjoy this, as the premise is simple enough to pick up. In fact, the first season is hit and miss enough that I wouldn't recommend it.
Robert Denby
I still haven't seen more than maybe two episodes of Full Metal Panic proper, but this show is entertaining and consistently very funny. It's also a nice change of pace to have two main characters who have every reason in the world to be romantically conflicted. Solid, fast-paced comedy that I'd actually recommend to non-anime fans.

Full Metal Panic is terrible. In fact its bad enough that I was laughing even at the serious parts because they were so absurdly terrible. But the high school comedy drama segments were always legitimately amusing, if not outright hilarious. Fumoffu takes that part of the show and absolutely perfects the formula. It is worth watching a couple episodes of FMP just to get a feel for Sagara and his chemistry with Kaname before watching this as it helps make even the first few episodes hilarious from the start. This show is Nichijou levels of insane, and it even has a suplex worthy to stand along side the Principal vs Deer segment.
