Sum it up in a Sentence

Three sisters living by themselves go about their daily lives and get into situations with their classmates and themselves.

Main Description

The Minami sisters live by themselves in an apartment (the subject about the status or whereabouts of their parents are never mentioned) and happily go about their lives attending school and spending time with each other. Along the way, they get into hijinks with their classmates, acquaintances, and a few relatives. Haruka, Kana, and Chiaki all attend different schools due to their difference in age, and are typically the focus of attention in their respective classes either willingly or unwillingly. In the end, most characters end up visiting the Minami sisters' residence due to circumstance.

Main Characters

Haruka Minami

Mk Haruka.jpg
Voiced by: Rina Sato
The eldest of the Minami sisters. She is a kind, optimistic mother-figure to her sisters. At home, she is often the one to do most of the chores such as cooking and cleaning, as well as shopping. She is also widely recognized at school due to her talents, although she herself does not want to get involved with too many activities.

Kana Minami

Voiced by: Marina Inoue
The middle child of her sisters. She is brash, loud, and oft-deemed an "idiot" by her younger sister Chiaki. Kana is spontaneous and is always up to playing practical jokes, and is lazy around the house. Very simple-minded, she will charge straight towards her objective while disregarding others, and it is this trait that often earns her the scorn of Chiaki. Despite this, she is old enough to understand more underlying adult themes in certain situations.

Chiaki Minami

Mk Chiaki.jpg
Voiced by: Minori Chihara
The youngest of the Minami sisters. She is critical, sharp-tongued, and easily annoyed with stupidity. However, she is still naive to many things and can act childish if she loses her cool. Chiaki is very attached to Haruka, and even admires hers to the point of calling her name with a combination of the "nee" and "sama" honorific. She also likes to help with cooking and is studious with schoolwork and reading.

Personal Opinions

Willsun

Although Minami-ke fits into the genre, the comedy fits more into the situation they're in and has less randomness than other Slice of Life anime series. Still, like the other series, a good deal of its settings are at the school they're in and doesn't take much setting up for the comedy. There's also some light romance sprinkled here and there that never really develops, but is good for setting the mood and the humorous misunderstandings it causes. The series will satisfy if you like the Slice of Life genre, and keeps things fairly light but never boring. That's a stark contrast to its sequel Minami-ke: Okawari unfortunately, but I won't get into that here. To end, the things that crack me up most from Minami-ke is the running joke of Ninomiya-kun + Sensei and the character Hosaka. KenjiKaizoku (Season 3)

Slice of life show about the 3 Minami sisters. This was the third season, and it was basically as good as the 1st season (I didn't hate Okawari, but I found it lacking). However, it didn't quite recover to the levels of funny that season 1 had (needs more "serious faces", as someone commented in its thread). It was also downright boring at times, but those are the kind or risks you take with the genre. If you're looking to jump into slice of life shows, I'd probably recommend Azumanga Daiou or Lucky Star ahead of this, but Minami-Ke has its own charm as well. 4/5
