When I first saw this years ago I was blown away by it. One of the best things about this movie is that while the fight scenes may be a little sparse they are extremely well done. The script does a good job of keeping you wondering what will happen next as the story progesses. One of the major themes of the movie is the ethics of having man and computers become intergrated. In context with the setting it is an intersting thought about if ones mind can exist without a body. Anyways I don't want to give too much away since one of the pros to this movie is the character and plot development.

Exceptionally good and classy cyberpunk movie. Ghost in the Shell has a great, deep plot and a moving soundtrack, especially the opening theme "Making of a Cyborg". The art style is decent, dark and very fitting for a cyberpunk setting. Even if the animation isn't that great by todays standards, the action scenes are well done and dramatic. This movie is a cyberpunk classic, worth watching by any fan of the genre.

Probably my favorite anime of all time. Deep speculation, believable characters, awesome setting, and a dark and somewhat spartan aesthetic. The animation was state of the art, and some sequences are still stunning, 12+ years later. The soundtrack can be spine-tingling. Watch this movie.

One of the first anime movies I ever watched and I was blown away by how amazing it was. Amazing visuals, brilliant music and a good cyberpunk story that really got me into the whole thing. If you're going to watch it, try and pick up a version that is both the classic and without the gun dub problem. The recently released 2.0 version doesn't do it justice because it replaces scenes with fairly poor CG that really ruins the immersion of the whole experience.

Ghost in the Shell is one of the most cyberpunk things ever. It's a love story to the genre out of the heart of techno-Japan that touches on all the important archetypes. It directly inspired The Matrix. It leads into Stand Alone Complex. It's a cultural milestone and in many respects looks back at the USA as affectionately as Gibson and Co. looked forward to Japan in the flurry of the early cyberpunk years. When someone recommends "Akira" to you, they're telling you to watch Ghost in the Shell afterwards, even if they aren't aware of it.
