Main Description

The Fujisaki Girls Academy is a well known school for proper girls. No one exemplifies this better than the student council president Maki. She secretly is curious about love though, and is found out by Riko, the resident tomboy, as she practices kissing her hugging pillow. Now, Riko is forced to help Maki learn about love while keeping it a secret from the rest of the school.

This was a really great surprise for me. The premise doesn't do the show justice because it was my second favourite comedy of 2013. The gags are great, the timing is tight, and there are a ton of awesome giffable moments. It was so much fun seeing the elaborate fantasies Maki had. Riko was really great as the straight man, and the rest of the cast play off of each other really well. It's a small thing, but this show really portrayed sibling rivalry perfectly. All told, the slapstick is really great, and the highs are really high.

The lows, on the other hand, are disappointingly low. When the drama kicks in, it brings the whole show down. It's only present in a few episodes, but it's a disappointing stain on an otherwise fantastic show.

What should've been yet another generic, droll "cute girls doing cute things" anime actually turned out to be pretty darn good. For the most part the show sticks to its core concept very nicely, has a good sense of humor and timing, and has well written characters. The quality takes a nosedive when the series attempts to be dramatic or fully serious, but luckily this doesn't happen too often.
