Main Description

Plot Synopsis

In the distant future, mankind has left Earth. On one planet named Earl, some of the "old technology" has survived in the form of nanomachines that allow young female virgins to take the role of Meister Otomes - bodyguards and warriors that serve the royalty of various kingdoms. However, not everyone is content to allow the old technology to fade away or go so unused, and there are those who seek it for their own ends, both nefarious and benevolent.

Into this volatile situation comes the main character: Arika Yumemiya, a spunky 14-year-old girl who has been raised in the rural countryside by her grandmother. She has come to the Windbloom Kingdom in search of her mother, who is said to have been a legendary Meister Otome. On her arrival to Windbloom, Arika witnesses the Meister Otome Shizuru Viola ("the Graceful Amethyst") in combat against a sinister monster called a Slave, and decides to become an Otome herself. The series follows her progress as a student at Garderobe academy, the machinations of those who seek to overthrow the Windbloom Kingdom, and the ensuing events.

It should be noted that the plot and story of the manga is radically different from the anime. The above plot synopsis is about the anime.

Zwei

Following the events one year after the conclusion of the main series, Arika and the other Otomes save the world from an incoming meteor, but faces greater danger in the mysterious enemies they do not at first realize followed on the meteor.

S.ifr

A prequel to the main series, S.ifr shows the events of the past generation of Otomes and the dangers they face from the kingdom of Schwartz. The protagonists feature a girl named Sifr Fran and Lena Sayers, the mother of Arika.

Personal Opinions

Totalizator

While not as good and emotionally heavy as My-HiME, Otome still has enough good points to recommend it to the fans of the original series. The fights are as decent (with more direct and less monster-on-monster combat), the music is fine, and the HiME cast is as good as ever, even some personality changes were in my opinion for the better. The new characters however aren't as interesting, and the series isn't as dark and dramatic. Overall i enjoyed Otome, but had the impression the series could have been better.

Willsun

Although not as dark and romance-involved as HiME, I think Otome still got pretty emotional in a few tear-jerking parts. Also, since everyone can fly and the series is newer than HiME, there's more action going on in the fighting, especially in some of the well-done parts of the OVAs. Less Pokémon-esque battles of HiME and more DBZ without the powering up. --Willsun 10:30, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
