Keyboard Kid
Pluto is fantastic. Urasawa is a master of his craft, and while there's so much depth in the references to Tezuka, you don't have to have read a single page of his to enjoy this. It's a great read, start to finish, and it's the best story about sentient robots you'll read. Not too complex, not pretentious, and it doesn't try to shove a moral down your throat. The art is gorgeous and it's structured so well. If you are a fan of manga, read this. If you've gone through 20th Century Boys or Monster, you'll know what you're in for.
IShallRiseAgain
While this series is one huge tribute to Astro Boy, it also works as a stand-alone work. The series has a compelling plot with a lot of intrigue and mystery along with many plot twists. The series explores themes of war and what it means to be human. I recommend checking this manga out.
