Over the top comedy about a boy dealing with his Mermaid Yakuza in-laws, when he is forced to marry the mermaid who saved his life.

Main Description

Seto no Hanayome's story revolves around a young teenage boy named Nagasumi Michishio. One day during his summer vacation, Nagasumi was saved from drowning by a mermaid, Sun Seto, in the Seto Inland Sea. However, under mermaid law, if a mermaid's identity as a mermaid has been revealed, either the mermaid who was involved or the human who saw the mermaid are to be killed. In an attempt to save both Nagasumi and Sun's lives, Sun's family, which is apparently the head of its own mob, reluctantly decides that the two are to be married.

Gōzaburō, Sun's father, however, is enraged about his daughter running off and getting married, especially to a human whom he deems inferior. Between Gōzaburō's attempts on his life and the madcap antics of a whole slew of antagonists — including the daughter of a rival mobster and a rich male transfer student with an attraction for Sun — Nagasumi is not enjoying a very smooth transition into his new lifestyle.

Personal Opinions

IShallRiseAgain

The show manages to be quite funny, due to it being completely over the top. The series has a lot of cliches typical of a harem series, but they are handled well and don't really feel like cliches. Occasionally, the show will try to be too serious, but it doesn't last for very long.

Indiana_Krom

Well it was a fun ride while it lasted, some of the parody episodes were especially hilarious. The rainbow color blood took some getting used to but was really funny sometimes. There were a fair amount of jokes that while repeated often, didn't get old through the run. Mawari was kind of annoying though, but Maki and Masa more than made up for it. 8/10

The OVA wasn't as good because by then some of the jokes had gotten a bit stale but it still had some amusing moments, felt more like a money grab. 7/10

Despite the show starting off at top speed and having to sit through the too-serious parts IShallRiseAgain mentioned, they are all very tolerable and you'll settle in. The show really is deserving of being in the "Comedy" genre and they make some hilarious parodies from the obvious (Terminator) to the not-so-obvious (episode 17's group of weirdos) and in general has a good deal of otaku-poking jokes.

This series will give you solid laughs. It's not a contender for a you-must-watch but it's way better than a lot of stuff. --Willsun 09:22, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
