Sum it up in a Sentence:

High school kid Touma balances living powerless in a world full of super powers and magic, while punching evil in the face.

Main Description

Kamijou Touma lives in Academy City, a futuristic city where the citizens all carry super powers and are known as Espers. There are 6 levels of Esper, ranging from 0-5, with strength using the ability based on your level. Touma's ability, the Imagine Breaker is one that fills only his right hand and negates all Esper and magical abilities, including his own luck, placing him as a level 0. One day he finds a little nun hanging outside his window who's name is Index. Currently being hunted by the Church of England, Touma grants her refuge and soon finds himself embroiled in a greater conflict of magic and science.

Personal Opinions

KenjiKaizoku

Yes, it's basically a shonen show, but that doesn't stop it from being entertaining.. The story involves both elements of science and magic, and it's pretty good. However, some people may take issue with the fact that the show's plot doesn't come close to approaching where the light novels' plot has gone, but that's why an inevitable 2nd season will come, should the show end up being popular enough. 4/5

Factor_VIII

The plot was disjointed and often stupid. New characters appeared every couple of episodes, took center stage for a bit and were then relegated to a bit part if they appeared afterwards at all. The setting seemed somewhat promissing and I rather liked Index, but in the end it was a pretty bad show. 2/5

Revolver Bunker

The show starts out pretty boring. World filled with magic and science. Girl filled with ridiculous magic spells and a guy that has a Deus Ex right hand. I really couldn't get into it until about half way through. The first story arc was alright but nothing special. The second story arc actually had me interested because its pretty messed up. Final arc was sort of meh but not bad. Overall it feels a bit generic and there are a lot of characters to keep track of in the show. But I like the main characters and the whole magic versus science. (5/10) Could have been better but also could have been made much worse.

Dj Meow Mix

I find this show (and most of the series) to be pretty enjoyable overall. The arc style makes the show feel really segmented though, which kind of harms the narrative. I don't mind this too much though, as the villains of the series end up being pretty ridiculous, and the direction will make it very satisfying when Touma punches them. And he will punch them. All of them. Occasionally I really wished that he would also get around to punching a few of the main characters as well, as they can get very annoying, particularly Index, who despite being the primary focus of much of the early series, is insufferable. On that note I can definitely understand complaints that the show suffers from poor pacing characterization. The primary cast, their fights and the build up to Touma delivering his own brand of justice kept me watching. 7.5/10

Relambrien

The first season of this show is pretty unfortunate. The setting is very unique, and allows a plot setup that keeps teasing the viewer but eventually goes nowhere. To top it all off, the show is terribly paced. On the other hand, there are a good number of likable or interesting characters that kept me entertained as I was watching it, but Index herself is not one of them. Its spinoff, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, is significantly better but also contains an offensive amount of fanservice. The second season of Index, however, is legitimately pretty good. The pacing is improved from the first season, the plot picks up as the source material does, and we get to see a lot more of the better characters. Worth a watch if you enjoy the struggle between man and mysticism. Even more worth a watch if you actually enjoy the wordy explanations of people's abilities and how the world works, like I do.

IShallRiseAgain

The show suffers because it is basically two completely different shows, with the exception of sharing a protagonist. The science part of the show is rather enjoyable. The characters are quite entertaining. The fights are also enjoyable, because the characters oftentimes use their powers in clever ways.

Unfortunately, the magic side of the show sucks. All of the characters on the magic side are uninteresting and terrible. Furthermore, whenever magic is used it basically just ends up being a technobabble battle.
