Sum it up in a Sentence:
A legendary pilot must contend with pirates, a foreign rival, and the ever-shrinking boundaries of his world.
Main Description
Marco Pagot was an incredible pilot for Italy during WWI. But one day, his squadron was wiped out, and he found himself transformed into some sort of pig-man. Growing ever disillusioned with the governments of the world, Marco leaves the air force. He makes his living by hiring himself out to protect shipments from air pirates, and his somewhat melancholic life is good. This is interrupted by the emergence of a brash young American rival named Curtis and the realization that the Italian government is still hunting Marco for desertion.

Before there was Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, this was Miyazaki's love letter to the ocean. The animation and art in this film is simply stunning, giving one a real feeling of wistful nostalgia for a time and a place long gone. The film's not really about dogfights, but about freedom; as a result, I have known one or two people to call it slow in parts. I couldn't disagree more. I personally think this is one of the better Ghibli films, and I highly recommend it.
