The movie is watchable, but I don't like it as much as Miyazaki's other works. The movie is too preachy about its environmental message for my tastes. Granted my dislike might be partially influenced by my knowledge of Miyazaki's crazy political views.

This movie is fucking awesome. It's one of the most action-packed and most beautiful of Miyazaki's movies. The pacing is great, the music is haunting, it just rules all around. It's not nearly the preachiest of Miyazaki's movies, either, but yeah it is a "message" movie.
Plus a guy shoots a dude's head clean off with a longbow. Come on.

My introduction to Miyazaki films, I saw this in the theaters when it came out stateside and was pretty much blown away. The localization is a bit rough, I don't know exactly how God of Life and Death is supposed to translate into Forest Spirit, but otherwise the voice acting cast is pretty awesome, Billy Bob Thorton doing the best as Jigo the Monk.Links
