Main Description

Hidamari Sketch (also known as Sunshine Sketch) centers around a young girl named Yuno who finally is able to get accepted into Yamabuki Art High School, which she has longed for. To attend the school, Yuno moves and starts to live in a small apartment building named the Hidamari Apartments located near the school. Once there, she starts making new friends like her classmate Miyako and the second year students, Hiro and Sae. The events of the characters' everyday lives are shown as they attend the school together and get to know each other better.

Revolver Bunker

Light hearted show about 4 high school girls studying art. Its the second season of Hidamari Sketch and they've gotten more money. The animation quality has improved but the artistic liberties are still there. No over arching plot, just everyday events. Good show to watch if you need something happy. (7/10)

Keyboard Kid

Hidamari is fascinating to me with how it just captures my mood and holds on for a solid 24 minutes each time. Well, that might be a lie--Aria manages that pretty well. There's three seasons with various OVA specials out as I write this, and the series has never dropped in quality. I will say that I wasn't hooked until the third-ish episode, as the first few aren't very gripping, especially without knowing the characters. As someone who hates K-On and doesn't care much for Azumanga, but loves Minami-ke and SHAFT shows, I recommend it.

Oh, and I have a feeling this page will get quite a few hits now that Aoki Ume (mangaka) did the character designs for Madoka Magica.

Cappy

I couldn't stand to watch the entire first season of this anime, despite the fact that I usually like cute stuff. I made it to probably episode 8 or 9 before I had had enough of cute girls doing boring things. A heavy dose of Miyako made episodes better so maybe watch those ones first if you want to check this anime out.

Snapalope

Other than Azumanga this is probably the only anime about cute girls doing cute things that I really enjoyed. The reason I enjoyed Hidamari Sketch and all of its seasons and specials is because of the non linearity aspect of it, and by making things non linear it avoided a lot of common stereotypes and tropes of a typical SoL anime. Also Miyako carries most of the jokes and she is awesome.

Unpronounceable

With the newest season, Honeycomb, this has ousted Aria as my favourite slice of life show. The animation gets better with each season, and SHAFT keeps putting in a lot of nice touches. Where they still felt new in season 3, Nori and Nazuna really feel like an important part of the cast now. If you have any interest in slice of life, it's worth a look.
